Choosing fabrics for historical costume
projects can be a daunting task. This
workshop will help you to find modern fabric
alternatives in different price ranges for your
18th century garment.

Study original 18th century fabrics and build
your own swatch book to bring with you when
shopping for fabrics. Find out what linens, wools,
silks and
cottons are available in the marketplace and
which fabric is appropriate for your historic
costume project.

18th Century Sacque Gown Workshop
This two day workshop will focus on each
individual designing and learning the techniques
to sew their own sacque back gown. Linings
will be custom fit to each person and then the
pleating techniques and construction techniques
will be demonstrated. Workshop
participants will work on their own garments
with assistance. A dressmaker's form will
be invaluable to each participant, there will be
a small number that will be available for

18th C Silk Bonnet and Cap Workshops
Make your own 18th century silk bonnet!
Silk bonnets are commonly seen in many 18th century prints
and satires of the 1770s and 1780s. Participants will have
a variety of styles and fabrics to choose from prior to the
workshop. All materials will be provided. This workshop is
being sponsored by the Brigade of the American Revolution.

Make a Cap!
A cap try on session will start the workshop, followed by a
presentation of examples in period art. It is essential for
women to try on a variety of caps in order to find the cap that
is right for them!.. Not all caps look good on all people and
this fun kick off to the workshop will ensure you recreate a cap
that looks good on you and is suitable for your interpretation.
Participants will have several cap styles and fabrics to
choose from, all materials will be provided.

Details, Details!!
Trimming out your gown? Cuffs, flounces and trims for
18th century gowns will be the center of attention in this class. Learn
all those little details that are so important to the final
finished costume project.
Attach your sleeve flounces with period techniques and choose
the proper cuff style for the time period of your gown.
Make the right choice for purchasing trims and ribbons, find
out what is available in different price ranges and how to
convert a simple purchased trim into a work of art using
fly fringe.
Extant examples of a sleeve cuff and sleeve flounce with fly
fringe will be available for study.
