Mrs. Izard

 

Mrs. Izard's Cap

This cap an interpretive design of the cap worn by Mrs. Ralph Izard in the Jonathan Singleton Copley portrait at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The cap consists of a box pleated ruffle attached to the cap band, the ruffles are held in place by millinery wire, which is covered with a narrow silk ribbon, a ruffle on the back edge of the cap band, and a decorative ribbon trim, complete this fancy cap. Self fabric poufs decorate the box pleats. This cap is designed to be worn with an appropriate hair styles of the 1770s, it will not sit or look well without the underlying foundation- your hair or a supplement of false hair.

The cap kit includes precut cotton organdy fabric, your choice of silk ribbon trim, cap wire, threads, and complete directions.

Mrs. Fort's Cap

This cap is modeled after the Cap worn by Mrs. Seymour Fort in the
Copley portrait at the Wadsworth Atheneum, c1776-80.  The cap has a triple full ruffle.  In the original portrait Mrs. Fort wears a ribbon tied in a bow on top of the cap and under her chin, but it works well with ribbon poufs or a simple ribbon around the band.  This cap is designed to be worn with an appropriate hair styles of the 1770s.  Mrs. Fort wears her hair high and to the back of her head.

Ruffled Long Lappet Cap 1740s-1750s

This long lappet cap has an applied gathered ruffle to the long edges of the lappet.  There is a small loop at each end of the lappet to tie with a ribbon bow.  this cap is available in sheer handkerchief linen or vintage linen for a lower class impression.

Simple Lappet Cap

c1750s-1770s

This cap is based on an original in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (accession # 49.366).  The original cap also has lace applied along the straight front edge of the band, this cap is depicted without lace, but it can be customized to suit.  Simple caps that tie under the chin are most commonly seen on women of middle age or older and those of the lower classes. This cap is available in vintage linen.
